Vehicle logistics
DAY 1; Two days prior to boating.
-
Arrive between 12pm to 5pm for sign-on, inspection of safety equipment, and briefing.
-
BBQ at 6pm, as meet and greet.
DAY 2; One day prior to boating.
-
Launch your boat and tie it up on the riverfront of the 'Discovery Parks Mildura, Buronga Riverside Caravan Park'.
-
Drive to the pre-organised secure parking in Mannum.
-
2:30pm = Chartered bus takes us back to Mildura, arriving approx 7pm.
DAY 3 to 9: boating the river! You can arrive in Mannum when you like during the final day, and one of our support team will ferry you to the secure parking. If you need to, you're free to start driving home that day.
If your boat were to have an issue we have two vehicles with trailers following along, and a sweep boat for welfare checks. Amongst the crew there is mechanical knowledge and First-Aid training. There are multiple boat shops along the way that we can source parts from, or transport a boat to if we can't fix it. Basically, we'll do our best to help you finish the rally.
Absolute worst case, if we can't get your boat moving again, we'll drive you to your car and trailer.

FUEL, FOOD & BEER
Food & Refreshments
Once we leave Wentworth on Day 1, you'll only need to carry enough food for 2 1/2 days, until Renmark. Renmark has a large IGA within walking distance of the main jetty, and from Renmark onwards there are plenty of small places to re-stock food and alcohol, or cafes and pubs to eat at.
Following Renmark it is possible to stop for lunch and dinner most days, with many pubs, cafes, bakeries, etc.
All are marked in the River Guide, a book provided to each participant upon arrival in Mildura.
Cafes/eateries:
Renmark, Berri, Loxton, Moorook, Morgan, Blanchetown, Swan Reach, Walker Flat, Bowhill.
Iconic pubs:
-
The Woolshed Brewery, Murtho.
-
Overland Corner Hotel.
-
Commercial and Terminus hotels, Morgan.
-
Swan Reach Hotel.
-
Pretoria Hotel, Mannum
Supermarkets: Renmark, Loxton, Waikerie, Morgan and Mannum.
Being small riverside communities, all are on or near the riverfront.
Fuel
Distances between fuel stops:
The longest stretch without fuel (or other services) is the 189km between Wentworth (NSW) and Customs House Houseboats (near SA Border).
For the small boats that can no longer get onto the plane once loaded, one of the support vehicles can carry some of your fuel cans. We recommend that small boats do a test run prior, with the full weight on board! Most have never loaded so much weight into their boat, and underestimate the impact.
From Customs House onwards you can get fuel every 70-100km, but some of those require a 700m walk. You should plan for a fuel range of 190km as this will enable you to make the distance between each riverside fuel pump (one is 100m from the water), and so you'll only need to walk twice for the whole journey (200m in Wentworth for maybe 20L, and 100m in Moorook). A fuel range of 130km is your absolute minimum.
For the times you have to carry your fuel cans, a hand trolley or beach trolley/wagon is recommended. The folding versions take up minimal space.
